Cold War 2 Goes Off In Asbury Park!
The 2nd annual cold war invitational went off last week on a snow covered beach behind the old casino building in Asbury Park, NJ. 18 surfers from up and down the east coast were divided into two teams with their captains being New Jersey legends Sam Hammer & Andrew Gesler.
The competition began around 8am with temperatures below 30 degrees, offshore winds gusting to 20kts with 4-5ft waves tubing off the perfect groomed sand bars.
It was a great New Jersey winter day for surfing and when it was all said and done Team Gesler tok home the title for the 2nd year in a row and each member of the team earning $1,000 cash. Clay Pollioni of Ortley Beach caught the wave of the day scoring a 9.75 out of 10 earning him an additional $1000 cash for his backside barrel ride, clean exit and stylish snap at the end with a classic claim putting the stamp on it.
Huge shoutout to the contest organizers Tim Donnelly and Rob Cloupe and to all the sponsors who made The Cold War possible: Surf Taco with Surfline, Smith Optics, Reef, Nixon, Da Kine, O’Neill, Traeger Grills, Surfers Environmental Alliance, Blazing Visuals, Asbury Park Brewery and The Asbury Park Boardwalk.
